# How to Set TinyMCE as the Default Text Editor

This guide explains how to set **TinyMCE** as the default text editor in Moodle.

This setting affects the editor used in activity descriptions, labels, and other content areas.

### Who can change this setting

Only administrators can change the default text editor for the site.

Teachers cannot override this setting unless specifically permitted.

### Step 1: Go to the text editor settings

Navigate to:

Site administration → Plugins → Text editors → Manage editors

You will see a list of available editors installed on the site.

### Step 2: Enable TinyMCE

Make sure **TinyMCE HTML editor** is enabled.

If it is disabled, enable it using the controls provided.

### Step 3: Set TinyMCE as the default editor

Navigate to:

Site administration → Plugins → Text editors → TinyMCE HTML editor

Locate the setting for the default editor configuration.

Set TinyMCE as the default editor for the site.

Save the changes.

### Step 4: Verify the change

Open any activity that includes a content editor, such as:

- A Label
- A Page
- A Video Lesson Activity description

Confirm that the editor interface shown is TinyMCE.

### Important notes

- The default editor applies site-wide.
- Users may still be able to select a different editor in their profile settings, depending on permissions.
- If multiple editors are enabled, Moodle allows users to choose their preferred editor.
