# What’s Video Library

The **Video Library** is a centralized area for the **Video Lesson Activity plugin** where uploaded videos are stored, managed, and reused across your Moodle site.

### Video Library and hosting requirements

The Video Library **requires video hosting infrastructure**. To use it, you must have either:

- **Self-hosted infrastructure** (e.g. AWS), or
- **Managed hosting** provided by MooPlugins

If you only embed YouTube, Vimeo, or external MP4 videos, the Video Library is **not used**.

### Main sections of the Video Library

#### 1. Folder panel (left sidebar)

- **All Videos**
Shows every uploaded video in the system.
- **Folders**
Used to organize videos into logical groups (for example, by department, course type, or program).
- **Uncategorized**
Default location for newly uploaded videos that are not yet assigned to a folder.

Folders help keep large video libraries manageable as usage grows.

#### 2. Upload videos

- The **Upload Videos** button allows you to upload one or more videos at a time.
- Uploaded videos are:

  - Added to the Video Library
  - Automatically processed for streaming
  - Available for reuse across courses

> Uploading videos requires either **self-hosted infrastructure** or **managed hosting**.

#### 3. Video list (main area)

Each video entry shows:

- **Thumbnail preview**
- **Video title**
- **Duration**
- **File size**
- **Source size** (original upload size)
- **Folder assignment**
- **Processing status** (e.g. *Transcoded*)
- **Instances count**
Indicates how many Video Lesson activities currently use this video.
- **Creation date**

This gives quick visibility into **usage, readiness, and storage impact**.

#### 4. Video status

Common statuses include:

- **Processing** – Video is being transcoded
- **Transcoded** – Video is ready for use in lessons

### Reusing videos across courses

A single video in the Video Library can be:

- Used in multiple courses
- Added to multiple Video Lesson activities
- Updated without re-uploading duplicates

### Permissions and access

Access to the Video Library is typically limited to:

- Administrators
- Managers
- Roles with video management capabilities

Stuents do **not** have access to the Video Library.
