The Video Library is a centralized area for the Video Lesson Activity plugin where uploaded videos are stored, managed, and reused across your Moodle site.
Video Library and hosting requirements #
The Video Library requires video hosting infrastructure. To use it, you must have either:

Self-hosted infrastructure (e.g. AWS), or

Managed hosting provided by MooPlugins
If you only embed YouTube, Vimeo, or external MP4 videos, the Video Library is not used.
Main sections of the Video Library #
1. Folder panel (left sidebar)

All Videos
Shows every uploaded video in the system. -
Folders
Used to organize videos into logical groups (for example, by department, course type, or program). -
Uncategorized
Default location for newly uploaded videos that are not yet assigned to a folder.
Folders help keep large video libraries manageable as usage grows.
2. Upload videos

The Upload Videos button allows you to upload one or more videos at a time.

Uploaded videos are:

Added to the Video Library

Automatically processed for streaming

Available for reuse across courses

Uploading videos requires either self-hosted infrastructure or managed hosting.
3. Video list (main area)
Each video entry shows:
- Thumbnail preview
- Video title
- Duration
- File size
- Source size (original upload size)
- Folder assignment
- Processing status (e.g. Transcoded)
- Instances count
Indicates how many Video Lesson activities currently use this video. - Creation date
This gives quick visibility into usage, readiness, and storage impact.
4. Video status
Common statuses include:
- Processing – Video is being transcoded
- Transcoded – Video is ready for use in lessons
Reusing videos across courses #
A single video in the Video Library can be:
- Used in multiple courses
- Added to multiple Video Lesson activities
- Updated without re-uploading duplicates
Permissions and access #
Access to the Video Library is typically limited to:
- Administrators
- Managers
- Roles with video management capabilities
Stuents do not have access to the Video Library.
